My "dark past” -
For 12 years I was in a dark place… literally speaking. Diagnosed in 2007 with a rare and severe form of glaucoma, I was reduced to hiding indoors, crippled by extreme light sensitivity. Simple moments, like a light switch flipping, could cause days of agony. While my family enjoyed the sunshine, I was often left calculating: "Can I endure the pain to be with them this time?"
My “bright future” -
Several surgeries and a miraculous discovery later, my family and I moved 1700 miles from Colorado to South Raleigh, NC, about 5000 feet lower in altitude. The change has been indescribable. While some chronic pain remains, it's now at a level that allows me to be "almost normal." After more than a decade in the dark, I'm able to venture back into the world.
I look forward to thoughtfully navigating the coming years, experiencing the world with my family, making amazing friends, and serving where I can.
I'm so grateful to God who carried me through the darkness (Luke 1:79), and to my family for loving me through the pain. I finally get to be the “me” that I always felt I was.
